GreenAnt's Desidera platform is a one-stop-shop climate analytics that supports public sector entities anticipate and mitigate natural disasters. Desidera identifies disaster thresholds, the precise weather conditions (think accumulated rainfall volume, temperature, etc.) that will trigger a flood or drought event in your community. These thresholds are calibrated to your community's specific geophysical conditions - the hydrological systems in your area, the coastal surge levels, the soil moisture levels, and beyond. Desidera then continuously monitors the local weather forecasts to scan for these disaster thresholds and send out early disaster warnings when disasters are anticipated. Desidera's disaster thresholds enable a novel financial tool for disaster production: The Anticipatory Natural Trigger, or ANT, is issued from a 3rd-party financial service partner as either a forecast-based weather derivative or anticipatory parametric insurance product. The concept is simple: When you purchase a contract for your community, Desidera identifies your bespoke disaster thresholds and monitors local forecasts to predict oncoming disasters. When a disaster is anticipated, a signal is sent from Desidera to the 3rd party, which goes on to distribute payouts to you and your stakeholders. These payouts arrive before the disaster strikes, and can be used to fund preemptive actions that mitigate the impacts and reduce loss and damage.
