GreenAnt's Desidera is the only known tool on the market capable of identifying "rainfall-to-flood thresholds," or RFTs, which define the specific volume of rainfall that will trigger a flood in a given area, taking into account that area's particular geophysical and hydrological characteristics. These thresholds enable a new way of conceptualizing, operationalizing, and planning around flood risk. Desidera can then automatically ingest local weather forecasts to scan for those thresholds and alert users when flood conditions are expected. Most flood risk systems rely on historical averages of flooding events to warn of risk. GreenAnt's RFTs and automated forecast monitoring provide much more precise flood predictions. As climate change worses and natural disaster events grow more common and more extreme, historical averages become less and less useful. Using hyper-local, threshold-based flood forecasting allows for highly accurate analysis regardless of the changing climate. Desidera is also highly precise, producing RFTs for parcels as small as five square kilometers, a level of geographic granularity that broad regional flood models cannot match. Additionally, GreenAnt's ANT tool can be packaged as a forecast-based weather derivative or anticipatory parametric insurance, both of which are GreenAnt inventions.
GreenAnt's use of synthetic apeture radar (SAR) satellite data also sets it apart from other competitors, who mostly rely on "optical" satellite data (think satellite images). As you might imagine, a picture taken from a satellite cannot "see" through clouds, dense tree canopies, or darkness. Radar data, on the other hand, are obtained when a satellite sends a signal down to Earth. Those signals pass through visual obstacles (i.e. clouds, trees, and darkness) to reach and obtain information about the ground below. As such, GreenAnt uses data that are much more reliable and accurate.

Desidera: The Platform

Desidera is GreenAnt's proprietary climate analytics platform. It is the all-in-one technology stack that underpins all of GreenAnt's products and services. Desidera ingests data from Sentinel and other satellite constellations, combining them with meteorological, hydrological, terrain, and local weather forecast data to produce environmental risk intelligence at high geographic resolution. It monitors conditions continuously and automatically, delivering outputs through an interactive interface and open APIs.

Desidera builds a "digital twin," or computerized simulation, of a target area by mapping and modeling terrain, hydrology, soil conditions, and land cover at high resolution using satellite radar data and proprietary ML algorithms. It then reconstructs historical flood events to calibrate the relationship between rainfall and flood detection at specific locations, simulation how water moves through space across the target area and producing rainfall-to-flood thresholds (RFTs) that define exactly how much cumulative rainfall is needed to trigger local flooding. Once RFTs are established, Desidera continuously monitors local weather forecasts and issues early warnings when forecasted rainfall is set to approach or exceed those thresholds. Desidera then sends out automatic early flood warnings.

A rainfall-to-flood threshold (RFT) is the volume of cumulative rainfall level across an entire hydrological basin that triggers flooding at a specific location. Desidera is the only known tool on the market capable of identifying a specific location's RFTs. Because flooding dynamics vary based on terrain, soil drainage capacity, river proximity, elevation, land cover, and many other geophysical characteristics, RFTs are highly localized; the threshold for one town may be very different from the threshold for a community ten kilometers away. Desidera calculates RFTs at a resolution that makes them actionable for specific communities, farms, or infrastructure sites, rather than for broad geographic regions.

Desidera uses APIs to connect directly to the systems your organization already uses. API integration supports automated alert delivery, parametric insurance trigger notifications, resource mobilization workflows, and data feeds into existing risk dashboards or decision-support platforms. GreenAnt works with clients to configure integration parameters during onboarding. For organizations that prefer a standalone interface, Desidera also provides a browser-based analytics dashboard that does not require API integration.

Desidera primarily uses Copernicus Sentinel satellite data, operated by the European Space Agency (ESA). Sentinel radar and optical datasets provide continuous, high-resolution coverage with a roughly 6-day latency period. However, Desidera is built to be able to integrate any satellite data source, especially if a smaller latency period is requried for a particular client project. In addition to satellite data, Desidera integrates third-party meteorological data from sources including ECMWF, GFS, and ICON for weather forecast monitoring.
The ANT: Anticipatory Action Product

Anticipatory action is an approach to risk management involving preemptive mitigation rather than reactive, post-disaster recovery. Anticipatory action is largely viewed as a more cost-efficient, more effective strategy; according to the World Food Program (WFP), every $1 invested in AA saves $7 dollars in future damage costs. In the long term, those savings reach up to $34 per dollar invested. The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) similarly found that even just 24 hours' worth of early disaster warning can lead to the reduction of disaster-driven loss and damage by up to 30%.

The ANT (Anticipatory Natural Trigger) is GreenAnt's flagship anticipatory action product. It is a forecast-indexed tool that enables the release of automatic financial payouts when Desidera's rainfall-to-flood thresholds are forecast to be exceeded. The ANT can be packaged either as a forecast-based weather derivative or as an anticipatory parametric insurance product. Unlike traditional disaster response funding, which is disbursed after an event has occurred, the ANT delivers liquidity before a flood strikes, giving MSMEs, organizations, and communities the resources to take preemptive, protective action while it is still possible. While GreenAnt created the ANT concept, and its technology fuels the payout system, we are not the body that structures or issues ANT contracts; that is done by partner capacity providers and brokers who are licensed to provide such financial services.

It releases funds hours or days before a natural disaster actually occurs. This anticipatory timing is what enables pre-disaster protective action rather than post-event recovery. In other words, unlike traditional insurance, ANT payouts are not intended to compensate loss; they compensate early action and loss prevention. The ANT recipient (an NGO, government agency, insurer, MSME, agribusiness, or other organization) pays an annual premium to a capacity provider that has partnered with GreenAnt to issue the ANT. This premium is a fraction of the total potential payout. When Desidera's forecast monitoring detects that rainfall-to-flood thresholds are expected to be exceeded, the capacity provider is automatically notified to release the payout. The premium structure means that organizations can unlock substantially larger disaster response funds than they would need to hold in reserve under a traditional contingency model, freeing capital for operational use during the periods between flood events.
