Deforestation and EUDR Compliance:
-
New market regulations are at the cutting edge of the fight against global deforestation. In June, 2023, the EU adopted the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), which targets key commodities like cattle, cacao, coffee, and wood. The policy mandates that, after December 30, 2025, relevant products and their derivatives entering the EU market must be “deforestation-free”—not sourced from land that has been deforested since 2020—and comply with their production country’s local laws.
Companies will be responsible for conducting their own due diligence, assessing and mitigating risks of their supply chains’ non-compliance. Most importantly, companies will bear the onus of proving their compliance with the EUDR. Upon every export of a relevant good, trade operators must submit an official Due Diligence Statement declaring that their product is deforestation-free. Without this document, export to the lucrative EU market is forbidden. Violations of the EUDR will incur heavy penalties, including large fines and trading bans. Desidera is set to support your organization as you navigate EUDR compliance. Monitor deforestation and access automated certifications from our platform.

The regulation requires that exports sourced from these 7 key commodities must be deforestation-free:
Cacao
Rubber
Coffee
Cattle
Soy
Wood
Palm
-
A vast number products are derived from the 7 key resources and therefore fall under the EUDR.
Producers of these and other products linked to the 7 resources will require an official Due Diligence Statement before exporting to the EU market.
Stearic Acid
Soy Sauce
Books
Glycerol
Wooden Furniture
Leather
